After studying cinema and spending several years working in the audiovisual field in Paris, Caroline Ruffault moved to Texas. It was in Austin that her photographic practice truly took shape. She earned her DNSEP in Art in 2022 from the Beaux-Arts de Lorient, affirming the singular trajectory of her work. Today, she divides her time between Texas, Saint-Malo and Rennes.
Her work explores liminal spaces, those thresholds where worlds, elements, and beings intertwine. She seeks to make visible the subtle interactions between humans and their environments. Drawing from intimate narratives, she traces the invisible threads that bind bodies to what surrounds them, those physical and mystical lines that connect us to others and to the territories we inhabit.
Her practice oscillates between poetry and engagement, landscapes become emotions that pass through us, while grounding in a place questions our relationship to identity and territory. Experimental at its core, her practice weaves together contact photography, paper weaving, and embroidery on images, methods that give material form to the fragile links between the visible and the intangible.
She worked for Reporterre, Streetpress, La Vie, Pays, Beau Magazine, Adidas, the Brittany region…
